{"id":1625,"date":"2025-02-04T16:42:11","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T16:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/26\/mini-moon-to-orbit-earth-this-autumn\/"},"modified":"2025-02-04T16:42:11","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T16:42:11","slug":"mini-moon-to-orbit-earth-this-autumn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/04\/mini-moon-to-orbit-earth-this-autumn\/","title":{"rendered":"&#039;Mini-moon&#039; to orbit Earth this autumn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2024-09-26 14:18:12<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Earth will temporarily gain a second Moon this autumn.<BR><br \/>\nScientists have confirmed that a small asteroid will be captured by our planet&#8217;s gravitational pull and will briefly become a &#8220;mini-moon&#8221;.<BR><br \/>\nThe lunar visitor will be around Earth from September 29 before it escapes from the planet&#8217;s gravity a couple of months later.<BR><br \/>\nHowever, the new moon will be too small and dim to be seen and will only be visible through the use of a professional telescope.<BR><br \/>\nAstronomer Dr. Jennifer Millard told BBC Radio 4&#8217;s &#8216;Today&#8217; programme: &#8220;It&#8217;s not going to be a complete a full revolution of our planet, it&#8217;s just going to kind of have its orbit altered, just twisted slightly by our own planet and then it&#8217;ll continue on its merry way.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nShe added: &#8220;Professional telescopes, they&#8217;ll be able to pick it up.
