{"id":2428,"date":"2025-04-14T16:12:31","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T16:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/14\/google-reveals-ai-model-to-help-decipher-dolphin-speech\/"},"modified":"2025-04-14T16:12:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T16:12:32","slug":"google-reveals-ai-model-to-help-decipher-dolphin-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/14\/google-reveals-ai-model-to-help-decipher-dolphin-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"Google reveals AI model to help decipher dolphin speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2025-04-14 16:12:31<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Google has announced a new artificial intelligence (AI) model that will help scientists study how dolphins communicate.<BR><br \/>\nThe tech giant collaborated with Georgia Tech and the field research of the Wild Dolphin Project (WDP) to build the new machine-learning tool DolphinGemma, which is &#8220;trained to learn the structure of dolphin vocalizations and generate novel dolphin-like sound sequences&#8221;.<BR><br \/>\nGoogle hopes DolphinGemma will help &#8220;understand the structure and potential meaning within these natural sound sequences&#8221; used by the animals, and will analyse sounds such as whistles, squawks and clicks from dolphins in different contexts.<BR><br \/>\nThe AI model uses Google\u2019s SoundStream tokeniser, which represents different dolphin sounds that will be processed by a model architecture suited for complex sequences.<BR><br \/>\nGoogle says DolphinGemma can run directly on Google Pixel phones used by the WDP, and is based on the same technology that is used in the company\u2019s AI model Gemini.<BR><br \/>\nAs well as DolphinGemma, the WDP has also developed the Cetacean Hearing Augmentation Telemetry (CHAT) system in collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology, which will be used to \u201cestablish a simpler, shared vocabulary\u201d between dolphins.<BR><br \/>\nThe concept begins by linking unique, synthetic whistles &#8211; developed by CHAT and different from natural dolphin sounds &#8211; to specific objects the dolphins enjoy, such as sargassum, seagrass, or scarves used by the researchers.<BR><br \/>\nBy first demonstrating the system through human interaction, the team hopes the dolphins\u2019 natural curiosity will lead them to imitate the whistles to request these items. <BR><br \/>\nOver time, as researchers gain a better understanding of the dolphins\u2019 natural vocalisations, those sounds can also be incorporated into the system.<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2025-04-14 16:12:31 Google has announced a new artificial intelligence (AI) model that will help scientists study how dolphins communicate.
