{"id":2455,"date":"2025-04-22T14:44:54","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T14:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/22\/chocolate-bar-from-1900-is-going-on-sale\/"},"modified":"2025-04-22T14:44:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T14:44:55","slug":"chocolate-bar-from-1900-is-going-on-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/22\/chocolate-bar-from-1900-is-going-on-sale\/","title":{"rendered":"Chocolate bar from 1900 is going on sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2025-04-22 14:44:54<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>A 125-year-old chocolate bar is going for up for sale.<BR><br \/>\nThe confectionery was sent to British troops fighting in the Boer War by Queen Victoria in 1900 and could fetch up to \u00a3400 when it is auctioned in June.<BR><br \/>\nThe chocolate bar &#8211; which is still in its original tin and has some of its foil wrapper still attached &#8211; has &#8220;a bit of a whiff to it&#8221;, according to Andy Stowe from Bristol auction house Auctioneum.<BR><br \/>\nHe told BBC Radio Bristol: &#8220;It&#8217;s got a bit of a whiff to it but otherwise it kind of looks OK.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t eat it but it looks OK considering how old it is.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nQueen Victoria commissioned chocolate manufacturers JS Fry and Sons, Cadbury Brothers Limited, and Rowntree and Company Limited to produce the special tins with the words &#8220;I wish you happy new year&#8221; in 1899.<BR><br \/>\nLucy McCourt, a militaria expert from Auctioneum, said: &#8220;This would have been a rare treat back in 1900 and the willpower required to not eat it would have been quite substantial.&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2025-04-22 14:44:54 A 125-year-old chocolate bar is going for up for sale.
