{"id":3372,"date":"2025-09-16T14:06:32","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T14:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/16\/penguins-commit-adultery\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T14:06:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T14:06:34","slug":"penguins-commit-adultery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/16\/penguins-commit-adultery\/","title":{"rendered":"Penguins commit adultery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2025-09-16 14:06:32<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Penguins do not all mate for life \u2014 some have affairs, and others even get &#8220;divorced&#8221;, according to a leading expert.<BR><br \/>\nThe black-and-white Antarctic waddlers are often thought of as models of lifelong monogamy, but it turns out their love lives are just as complicated \u2014 and scandalous \u2014 as ours.<BR><br \/>\nDr. Peter Fretwell, of the British Antarctic Survey, explained that penguins have social structures and characteristics that are &#8220;very relatable&#8221; to humans.<BR><br \/>\nHe said: &#8220;There are divorces and if you\u2019re not getting on with your partner after a few years, sometimes they\u2019ll go and choose another.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;The mating one is some mate for life, and some don\u2019t \u2014 and that\u2019s very relatable as a human.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nThe boffin pointed to gentoo penguins, who gift stones as tokens of love, and ad\u00e9lie penguins, who use the pebbles to build nests. <BR><br \/>\nBut in some cases, the birds will even &#8220;sell their services&#8221; for a stone.<BR><br \/>\nDr. Fretwell added: &#8220;We often anthropomorphise penguins. As scientists, we hate that but we can\u2019t get away from it.
