Research shows VO₂ max — the body’s endurance capacity — can fall by more than 50 per cent at 6,000m.

Above 5,500m, climbers often enter the so-called “death zone”, where prolonged exposure can be fatal.

Patterson ran an entire marathon in it.

The attempt was supported by a specialist crew including medics and local guides, ensuring Patterson could operate as safely as possible in conditions where sudden weather changes or physical collapse were real threats.

The feat was filmed for a forthcoming feature documentary, with a trailer set to premiere during Baby Loss Awareness Week in October.

For Patterson, it was more than a record — it was proof that, even in the most brutal environments, hope and determination can carry you further than anyone thought possible.

More info can be found on JP’s Instagram account – @joshuapatterson_jp.

Donations can be made via justgiving.com/crowdfunding/skysthelimit25

Visit Bang Bizarre (main website)

2025-09-18 11:02:44 A British endurance star has smashed a Guinness World Record by running a marathon at an altitude so high most people can barely stand up.
