The supermarket also found that 62 per cent of Gen Z consumers are actively trying to boost their fibre intake — compared with just 36% of over-65s.

Charlie Parker, senior nutritionist at Ocado Retail, is quoted by The Times newspaper as saying: “Fibre has sometimes been overlooked, but the data shows that awareness is growing and more people are looking to increase their intake. What’s encouraging is that many are turning to simple, familiar foods like cereals, beans and fruit to do so. With younger generations driving much of the interest, it’s great to see a broad recognition of the role fibre plays in overall health.”

The NHS recommends 30g of fibre a day, yet fewer than one in 20 adults hit the target. TikTok influencers pushing fibremaxxing urge followers to eat 50 to 100g daily, sharing viral recipes like chia seed chocolate mousse and chickpea brownies.

One prune packs around 1g of fibre, a tin of chickpeas has 7g, and a bowl of porridge oats gives 4g. Experts agree fibre fills you up, cuts the risk of obesity and lowers the chance of chronic diseases, including bowel cancer. The World Health Organisation says high-fibre diets can reduce bowel cancer risk by up to 30 per cent.

Nutrition guru Professor Tim Spector, of King’s College London and the Zoe nutrition app, is urging Brits to eat 30 different plants a week for gut health. His new app includes a plant counter and AI tool that scans food photos for a health score.

Spector said: “This app is the health wake-up call we all need. Our junk-filled food environments are wrecking our health. Personalised nutrition and evidence-based advice gives people power to build better food habits. Our gut microbiome test is simple but powerful — it’s science in your pocket, and it will change your life like it did mine.”

Visit Bang Bizarre (main website)

2025-09-23 11:10:09 Prunes and All-Bran might once have been the butt of jokes about old age, but now they’re flying off the shelves – thanks to a Gen Z health…

[4

post-3404","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bizarre
["GET
