{"id":3521,"date":"2025-10-16T13:01:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T13:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/16\/humans-may-have-sixth-sense\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T13:01:35","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T13:01:35","slug":"humans-may-have-sixth-sense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/16\/humans-may-have-sixth-sense\/","title":{"rendered":"Humans may have Sixth Sense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2025-10-16 13:01:33<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Scientists believe humans possess a \u201chidden sixth sense\u201d.<BR><br \/>\nThe team from Scripps Research in California say that it constantly monitors our internal organs and helps keep the body in balance.<BR><br \/>\nThe researchers also say the process &#8211; known as interoception &#8211; could revolutionise our understanding of human biology, and has just received a $14.2 million grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study it in depth.<BR><br \/>\nUnlike the five traditional senses &#8211; sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch &#8211; which detect external stimuli, interoception tracks internal signals such as breathing, heartbeat, blood pressure, hunger and even signs of infection.<BR><br \/>\nProfessor Xin Jin, who is leading the project, said: &#8220;Interoception is fundamental to nearly every aspect of health, but it remains a largely unexplored frontier of neuroscience.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nThe concept was first proposed over a century ago by British neuroscientist Charles Sherrington, but has only gained serious attention in recent years. <BR><br \/>\nResearchers now plan to create the world\u2019s first atlas of this internal sensory system by mapping how nerve cells communicate with organs such as the heart, lungs, stomach and kidneys.<BR><br \/>\nThe scientists believe this \u201csixth sense\u201d could explain why the body knows when to rest, eat or heal &#8211; and how its disruption might lead to illness. <BR><br \/>\nProblems with interoception have already been linked to autoimmune disorders, chronic pain and high blood pressure, while mental health experts say it may also play a role in anxiety, depression and eating disorders.<BR><br \/>\nWriting in The Conversation, researchers Dr. Jennifer Murphy and Freya Prentice said: &#8220;It contributes to many psychological processes \u2013 including decision-making, social ability and emotional wellbeing.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nProfessor Jin said the new research could help identify ways to restore balance when the brain and body fall out of sync: \u201cBy creating the first atlas of this system, we aim to lay the foundation for understanding how the brain keeps the body in balance &#8211; and how we might restore it when that balance is disrupted.&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2025-10-16 13:01:33 Scientists believe humans possess a \u201chidden sixth sense\u201d.
