{"id":3668,"date":"2025-11-13T12:04:45","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T12:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/13\/football-fans-go-through-extreme-brain-activity-during-matches\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T12:04:48","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T12:04:48","slug":"football-fans-go-through-extreme-brain-activity-during-matches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/13\/football-fans-go-through-extreme-brain-activity-during-matches\/","title":{"rendered":"Football fans go through \u2018extreme\u2019 brain activity during matches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2025-11-13 12:04:45<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Football fans experience dramatic changes in brain activity every time their team scores, wins or loses.<BR><br \/>\nScientists in Chile scanned the brains of supporters as they watched footage of real match goals \u2014 and found that the emotional highs and lows of football trigger powerful neurological reactions within seconds.<BR><br \/>\nWhen a fan\u2019s team scored, the brain\u2019s reward and pleasure centres lit up, releasing feel-good chemicals such as dopamine, the same neurotransmitter linked to joy, motivation and even addiction. <BR><br \/>\nBut when their rivals scored, a very different system switched on: regions involved in introspection and emotional processing, helping fans rationalise the painful blow.<BR><br \/>\nThe study monitored 60 male fans aged 20\u201345 from two fierce Chilean rivals \u2014 Colo-Colo and Club Universidad de Chile \u2014 using fMRI brain scans as they watched 63 goals, from their team, their rivals and neutral clubs.<BR><br \/>\nResearchers also surveyed their levels of fanaticism, including belonging, passion and even tendencies toward aggression.<BR><br \/>\nThe more devoted the fan, the more explosive the brain\u2019s reaction during key match moments.<BR><br \/>\nLead researcher Francisco Zamorano Mendieta, of Clinica Alemana de Santiago, said: &#8220;Deep commitment to the team influences neural activity. Important victories activate reward networks in the brain more than victories against non-rival teams.
