Too much glucose or sorbitol can overwhelm those microbes, allowing sorbitol to slip through to the liver where it converts into a fructose derivative and contributes to fat buildup.

The study concluded that excessive sorbitol intake “may pose a risk for the development of MASLD”.

The findings arrive amid mounting concerns over artificial sweeteners. While experts caution sugar substitutes are still preferable to sugar itself, the idea that they pass harmlessly through the body “may not hold true,” researchers warned.

Visit Bang Bizarre (main website)

2025-11-27 15:00:59 A supposedly “healthier” sugar substitute in sugar-free products could be fuelling deadly liver disease.
