{"id":3745,"date":"2025-11-27T15:03:33","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T15:03:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/27\/tai-chi-improves-sleep-quality\/"},"modified":"2025-11-27T15:03:34","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T15:03:34","slug":"tai-chi-improves-sleep-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/27\/tai-chi-improves-sleep-quality\/","title":{"rendered":"Tai chi improves sleep quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2025-11-27 15:03:33<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Tai chi can help cure chronic insomnia.<BR><br \/>\nA major new study claims  the ancient mind-body practice can deliver sleep benefits nearly on par with cognitive behavioural therapy.<BR><br \/>\nAround one in three Britons wrestle nightly with insomnia, a condition linked to heart disease, depression, and cognitive decline. <BR><br \/>\nCBT-I is considered the gold-standard treatment, but access is notoriously limited. <BR><br \/>\nTai chi, on the other hand, is available in most community centres and parks \u2014 and crucially, it won\u2019t leave you sweaty and wired before bed.<BR><br \/>\nThe study\u2019s authors described tai chi as a \u201cholistic mind-body practice integrating physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and behavioural components&#8221;.<BR><br \/>\nThey added the gentle martial art has been shown to \u201creduce stress, depressive symptoms, and cognitive hyperarousal\u201d<BR><br \/>\nResearchers at the University of Hong Kong recruited 200 adults aged 50 and over, all diagnosed with chronic insomnia, and split them into two groups.<BR><br \/>\nHalf practised tai chi twice a week for an hour, while the others received full CBT-I treatment following the same schedule.<BR><br \/>\nUsing the Insomnia Severity Index, the team tracked improvements at the three-month mark and again after a full year. <BR><br \/>\nWhile CBT showed the biggest early gains &#8211; an 11.19-point drop in severity versus tai chi\u2019s 6.67-point reduction &#8211; the gap narrowed dramatically over time. <BR><br \/>\nAfter 15 months, tai chi participants maintained a 9.51-point improvement, nearly mirroring the CBT group\u2019s 10.18.<BR><br \/>\nBoth groups saw better sleep, better mood and better overall quality of life. <BR><br \/>\nAnd while researchers admit tai chi\u2019s long-term benefits may stem from participants continuing the practice after the trial, the conclusion was clear: &#8220;Our study supports tai chi as an alternative treatment approach for the long term management of chronic insomnia in middle aged and older adults.&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2025-11-27 15:03:33 Tai chi can help cure chronic insomnia.
