{"id":3792,"date":"2025-12-11T11:06:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T11:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/11\/two-sweet-treats-banned-from-calling-themselves-chocolate\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T11:06:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T11:06:11","slug":"two-sweet-treats-banned-from-calling-themselves-chocolate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/11\/two-sweet-treats-banned-from-calling-themselves-chocolate\/","title":{"rendered":"Two sweet treats banned from calling themselves &#039;chocolate&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2025-12-11 11:06:09<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Toffee Crisp and Blue Riband are no longer considered &#8220;chocolate&#8221; bars.<BR><br \/>\nConfectionery giant Nestle has changed the recipes of the beloved sweet treats to save on soaring cocoa costs, slashing the amount of cocoa so low that UK law forbids them from being called &#8220;chocolate&#8221;, and instead have the label &#8220;chocolate flavour&#8221;.<BR><br \/>\nUnder UK rules, a product needs at least 20 per cent cocoa solids and 20 per cent milk solids to call itself chocolate.<BR><br \/>\nInstead, cocoa has been replaced with vegetable fats.<BR><br \/>\nA Nestle spokesperson said: &#8220;We\u2019ve recently updated the recipes for our Toffee Crisp range and Blue Riband. These changes have been carefully developed and sensory tested with taste and quality being our top priority at all times.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;As always, we keep our ingredients up to date and clearly labelled on pack, so confectionery fans can continue to enjoy our products with confidence.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;Like every manufacturer, we\u2019ve seen significant increases in the cost of cocoa over the past years, making it much more expensive to manufacture our products.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;We continue to be more efficient and absorb increasing costs where possible. To continue to offer shoppers great value and enjoyment, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the recipes of some of our products.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nDespite Toffee Crisp and Blue Riband &#8211; which have already been rebranded online as being coated in \u201cchocolate flavour coating\u201d rather than \u201cmilk chocolate&#8221; &#8211; containing less cocoa, it does not necessarily mean the cost of the bars will be cheaper.<BR><br \/>\nNestle &#8211; which was forced to stop calling its KitKat White bars \u201cchocolate\u201d on packaging because the recipe contained less cocoa &#8211; said pricing for its products was \u201cat the discretion of individual retailers\u201d.<BR><br \/>\nAnd the confectionery titan added that there were \u201cno plans\u201d to make the same change to any of its other chocolate products, such as Milkybar.<BR><br \/>\nElsewhere, McVitie\u2019s confirmed it has made similar shifts to Penguin, Club, and even White Digestives products, swapping cocoa fat for \u201ca blend of fats\u201d amid what it called a \u201cbusiness continuity issue.\u201d<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2025-12-11 11:06:09 Toffee Crisp and Blue Riband are no longer considered &#8220;chocolate&#8221; bars.
