{"id":4054,"date":"2026-02-12T11:07:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T11:07:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/12\/drug-dealer-rigs-house-with-home-alone-inspired-traps\/"},"modified":"2026-02-12T11:07:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T11:07:17","slug":"drug-dealer-rigs-house-with-home-alone-inspired-traps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/12\/drug-dealer-rigs-house-with-home-alone-inspired-traps\/","title":{"rendered":"Drug dealer rigs house with Home Alone inspired traps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2026-02-12 11:07:15<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>A drug dealer who turned his home into a real-life version of Home Alone has been jailed for seven years.<BR><br \/>\nIan Claughton rigged three neighbouring houses in Grimethorpe, South Yorkshire, with a series of booby traps \u2014 complete with tripwires, pipe bombs and even a homemade flamethrower \u2014 to protect his cannabis growing empire from intruders.<BR><br \/>\nAround 100 homes had to be evacuated in May 2024 as police swooped on the properties and uncovered the bizarre defences.<BR><br \/>\nOpening the case, prosecutor Helen Chapman told jurors: \u201cIf you are sitting there thinking that this sounds a little like the film Home Alone, then you would be correct.<BR><br \/>\n\u201cIn fact, that is precisely what Ian Claughton said he was aiming for when he told the police about these devices.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nDetective Superintendent Al Burns said Claughton \u201cappears to have developed a siege mentality that saw him go to unusual and elaborate lengths to defend his home and its illicit contents from would-be intruders, drawing inspiration from Macaulay Culkin&#8217;s character in the popular Christmas film Home Alone\u201d.<BR><br \/>\nOfficers found fishing wire stretched at knee height across a room, attached to an electrical connector and battery pack, as well as homemade pipe bombs, a stun gun hidden behind a fridge-freezer and a flamethrower in a workshop.<BR><br \/>\nCannabis plants were growing in hidden rooms and tents, while \u00a327,000 in cash had been sewn into a sofa.<BR><br \/>\nTwo high-powered air guns and a crossbow were also recovered.<BR><br \/>\nJudge Graham Reeds told Sheffield Crown Court that Claughton was \u201ca drug dealer who used these weapons to protect [his] cannabis growing operation\u201d.<BR><br \/>\nClaughton, 60, pleaded guilty to drug production and importing a realistic imitation firearm, and was also convicted of firearms offences, possession of criminal property and explosive substances following a trial.<BR><br \/>\nHis ex-wife, Lesley Claughton, received a 21-month suspended sentence.<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2026-02-12 11:07:15 A drug dealer who turned his home into a real-life version of Home Alone has been jailed for seven years.
