Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder believes we\u2019re all living in a \u201chuman zoo\u201d.

\nThe 63-year-old rocker reckons Earth isn\u2019t quite what it seems and claims aliens have been meddling with humanity for centuries.

\nHe told Mojo magazine: “Since I was a fing little kid I\u2019ve always thought this ain\u2019t our fing planet, it\u2019s an experiment in a f***ing zoo.”

\nThe singer believes humans have been \u201ctampered with\u201d and \u201cintelligently designed\u201d, suggesting extraterrestrials have had a guiding hand in shaping life as we know it.

\nShaun – who has previously spoken about alleged UFO encounters – added that while he hasn\u2019t seen one \u201cfor a good couple of years\u201d, there was a time when they were \u201creally f***ing about\u201d with him.

\nHe admitted that period could just as easily have been a \u201challucinogenic, mad breakdown\u201d during his notoriously wild years.

\n\u201cAnyway, I\u2019ve f***ing been there, tuned into Radio Gaga. Now I\u2019m Radio Straight-head,\u201d he joked.

\nThe Black Grape star has long been open about his hellraising past, but says those days are firmly behind him.

\n\u201cWhen I hit 40 it was just time to grow up, to knock all the madness on the head,\u201d he explained.

\nNow sober and settled, Shaun says he\u2019s catching up on indie tracks he missed during the chaos of the 1990s.

\n\u201cIt\u2019s funny, I listen to \u201990s radio when we\u2019re driving about. I\u2019m hearing stuff from the \u201990s for the first time.\u201d

\nHis teenage children, aged 18 and 17, have never known the wild version of their dad.

\nLooking to the future, Shaun also wants to leave a lasting mark on his beloved Manchester.

\nInspired by how The Beatles statues draw crowds to Liverpool, he believes interactive monuments to hometown heroes could boost his city too.

\nHe explained: “We don\u2019t do statues in Manchester. I mean, statues of The Beatles bring people to Liverpool, don\u2019t they?”

\nShaun recently called for a statue in Manchester to honour late Stone Roses legend Mani.

\nAppearing on Absolute Radio show Bush and Richie on Hometime with his bandmate Bez, Shaun was asked by presenter Andy Bush if Mani should be honoured with a statue in Manchester.

\nShaun responded: \u201cWell, look, we haven\u2019t got a statue for Tony Wilson yet. We\u2019re not Liverpool where there\u2019s (lots of) statues.

\n\u201cYou\u2019ve got The Bee Gees in the Isle of Man, you\u2019ve got Morecambe and Wise (Eric Morecambe) in Morecambe, you\u2019ve got The Beatles statues in Liverpool. We don\u2019t have statues. Manchester doesn\u2019t do statues like that. There\u2019s a call for Tony Wilson to be honoured like that but it\u2019s not happening.

\n\u201cIt doesn\u2019t take a big business brain to go, ‘Well, if we throw a few of these statues up like Mani and Andy Rourke or (Factor Records’) Martin Hannett, and stick them around central Manchester, they\u2019re gonna bring in tourists who then go in your hotels.\u2019\u201d
