{"id":4301,"date":"2026-04-01T12:01:01","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T12:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/01\/humans-might-not-be-able-to-start-families-in-space\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T12:01:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T12:01:03","slug":"humans-might-not-be-able-to-start-families-in-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/01\/humans-might-not-be-able-to-start-families-in-space\/","title":{"rendered":"Humans might not be able to start families in space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2026-04-01 12:01:01<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>The dream of raising families on Mars may have just hit a major snag.<BR><br \/>\nScientists say while humans could one day live beyond Earth, actually having babies in space might be far trickier than expected.<BR><br \/>\nA new study from the Robinson Research Institute at the University of Adelaide suggests microgravity interferes with sperm\u2019s ability to find an egg \u2013 a crucial step in reproduction.<BR><br \/>\nResearchers simulated zero gravity conditions on Earth and found that sperm struggled with direction \u2013 even though they were still swimming just as fast and strong.<BR><br \/>\nSenior author Nicole McPherson said: &#8220;This is the first time we have been able to show that gravity is an important factor in sperm\u2019s ability to navigate through a channel like the reproductive tract.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nShe added: &#8220;We observed a significant reduction in the number of sperm that were able to successfully find their way through the chamber maze in microgravity conditions compared to normal gravity.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nIn fact, the team recorded a 30 per cent drop in successful fertilisation of mouse eggs after just four hours in simulated zero gravity.<BR><br \/>\nEven more puzzling, sperm movement itself wasn\u2019t affected.<BR><br \/>\nDr McPherson explained: &#8220;This indicates that their loss of direction was not due to a change in motility but other elements.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nScientists even added progesterone \u2013 a hormone that helps guide sperm \u2013 but only very high levels made a difference.<BR><br \/>\nDespite the setbacks, researchers say it\u2019s not all doom and gloom for future space colonies.<BR><br \/>\nDr McPherson said: &#8220;In our most recent study, many healthy embryos were still able to form even when fertilised under these conditions.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nShe added: &#8220;This gives us hope that reproducing in space may one day be possible.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nThe findings, published in Communications Biology, highlight just how many unknowns remain when it comes to life beyond Earth.<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2026-04-01 12:01:01 The dream of raising families on Mars may have just hit a major snag.
