But the former White House chief clarified that he simply meant life could exist somewhere in the vast universe, not that Earth has already made contact.<BR><br \/>\nHost Stephen Colbert joked that &#8220;nobody believed you&#8221; when Obama tried to explain the comment away, before urging him to tell the truth.<BR><br \/>\nObama responded: &#8220;Here\u2019s the thing: For those of you who still think that we\u2019ve gotten little green men underground somewhere, one of the things you learn as president is the government is terrible at keeping secrets.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;This idea of conspiracy theories \u2013 if there were aliens or alien spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about, seen, photographs, what have you \u2026 I promise you some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her. There would be leaks.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nDespite dismissing the rumours, Obama admitted he would happily take charge if humanity ever did encounter extraterrestrials.<BR><br \/>\nThe former President said: &#8220;First contact, I think I would be a good emissary for the planet.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;I\u2019ve got some experience at statecraft and diplomacy. I\u2019m friendly.
