{"id":4504,"date":"2026-05-14T12:05:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T12:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/14\/fat-jabs-slash-breast-cancer-odds\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T12:05:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T12:05:09","slug":"fat-jabs-slash-breast-cancer-odds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/14\/fat-jabs-slash-breast-cancer-odds\/","title":{"rendered":"Fat jabs slash breast cancer odds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2026-05-14 12:05:07<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>Weight loss jabs could dramatically improve survival odds for breast cancer patients and slash the chances of the disease returning, scientists claim.<BR><br \/>\nResearchers led by Kristina Tatum, from Virginia\u00a0Commonwealth\u00a0University, found women using blockbuster GLP-1 slimming injections were up to 65 per cent less likely to die from any cause over a 10-year period.<BR><br \/>\nThe drugs were also linked to a 56 per cent lower risk of breast cancer returning.<BR><br \/>\nEven more astonishingly, breast cancer patients with type 2 diabetes taking GLP-1 medications had a 91 per cent lower risk of death compared to those using insulin or metformin.<BR><br \/>\nResearchers said the findings suggest \u201ca potential association\u201d between weight loss jabs and \u201cimproved outcomes\u201d in overweight breast cancer patients or those with diabetes.<BR><br \/>\nThey added: \u201cThis study suggests that GLP-1s may offer protective benefits beyond glycaemic and weight control, potentially improving survival and recurrence risk in some female patients with breast cancer.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nThe huge study, published in JAMA Network Open, analysed data from 841,831 breast cancer patients diagnosed between 2008 and 2023.<BR><br \/>\nScientists have long known obesity and type 2 diabetes can worsen breast cancer outcomes.<BR><br \/>\nResearchers wrote: \u201cInterventions for weight reduction to address obesity among patients with breast cancer may improve outcomes.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nBut not everyone is convinced the miracle jabs are a cancer-busting breakthrough just yet.<BR><br \/>\nProfessor Paul Pharoah, from the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, warned: \u201cThe biggest red flag is that the effect sizes are enormous.<BR><br \/>\n\u201cTo put this in perspective the most effective chemotherapy regimens reduce relapse by 38 per cent.<BR><br \/>\n\u201cThese effect sizes simply cannot be due to the drug and so the only reasonable explanation is confounding\/bias.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nCharles Birts, from the University of Southampton, added: \u201cOverall, these findings are promising and support further clinical trials, but they should not yet change breast cancer treatment practice.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nMeanwhile, Simon Vincent said the results show the area is \u201cworth researching further\u201d.<BR><br \/>\nAround 59,000 women and 420 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Britain, making it the second most common cancer in England.<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2026-05-14 12:05:07 Weight loss jabs could dramatically improve survival odds for breast cancer patients and slash the chances of the disease returning, scientists claim.
