{"id":4552,"date":"2026-05-25T11:03:41","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T11:03:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/25\/mona-lisa-may-have-suffered-obesity-and-high-cholesterol-doctor-claims\/"},"modified":"2026-05-25T11:03:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T11:03:43","slug":"mona-lisa-may-have-suffered-obesity-and-high-cholesterol-doctor-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/25\/mona-lisa-may-have-suffered-obesity-and-high-cholesterol-doctor-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Mona Lisa may have suffered obesity and high cholesterol, doctor claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2026-05-25 11:03:40<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>The Mona Lisa may have been overweight and suffering from health problems, according to a leading obesity expert.<BR><br \/>\nDr Michael Yafi claims the iconic figure painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the early 1500s likely had high cholesterol and an underactive thyroid.<BR><br \/>\nThe masterpiece, believed to depict Florentine noblewoman Lisa del Giocondo, wife of a wealthy silk merchant, hangs in Paris\u2019 Louvre Museum and has fascinated generations with her enigmatic expression.<BR><br \/>\nBut Dr Yafi believes clues in the painting point to possible medical conditions.<BR><br \/>\nHe said: \u201cLisa is shown with excessive body fat.<BR><br \/>\n\u201cThere are many theories about her and the most recent paper was basically that she had a problem with her body mass index (BMI) and severe hypothyroidism.<BR><br \/>\n\u201cWe don\u2019t know because we cannot go back and make a diagnosis, we are just analysing her features.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nThe children\u2019s medical specialist from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston said her uneven skin tone and a visible lump on her hand may indicate high cholesterol.<BR><br \/>\nHowever, he suggested there could be a simpler explanation for her fuller figure.<BR><br \/>\nDr Yafi added: \u201cA simpler explanation is that she had put on weight in pregnancy. After all, she\u2019d had four children by this time.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nSpeaking at the European Congress on Obesity in Istanbul, Turkey, Dr Yafi said body size was viewed very differently centuries ago.<BR><br \/>\nHe explained: \u201cObesity has an interesting history.
