TikTok users have been left split after a self-described \u201ctime traveller\u201d claimed to have revealed images from the future purportedly showing the beginning and end of a third world war.

\nThe theory has sprung up despite widespread scepticism from viewers who said the pictures appeared to have been created using artificial intelligence.

\nThe online account in question, which posts under the username @timevoyagin, has built a following by sharing a series of extraordinary claims about future events, aliens and historical conspiracies.

\nIn its latest videos, its creator claims to be a \u201creal time traveler\u201d who is \u201cnow allowed\u201d to release photographs from the future.

\nThe posts arrive as concerns around AI-generated imagery and online misinformation continue to grow, with increasingly realistic synthetic images making it harder for social media users to distinguish genuine photographs from fabricated content.

\nExperts have repeatedly warned AI-generated images can spread false narratives rapidly across platforms including TikTok.

\nIn one video, the account wrote: \u201cATTENTION! Yes, I am a real time traveller, World War III was the most liked comment.

\n\u201cSo as I promised I would do, here are pictures of how it began and how it ended.\u201d

\nThe footage begins with what appears to be a massive explosion over an unidentified city before showing further images of large-scale detonations, laboratory scenes and destruction across multiple locations.

\nThe final images depict the Earth apparently destroyed when viewed from space.

\nThe account also claims humanity survives the conflict by abandoning Earth and relocating to a new world known as \u201cPlanet Delta\u201d.

\nDespite the dramatic claims, many viewers challenged the authenticity of the images.

\nOne user said: \u201cThose are obviously AI generated\u201d.

\nAnother wrote: \u201cFake as hell!\u201d

\nA third commented: \u201cSo how is this proof if it’s CGI? also, you see how they are super selective on who they reply to because they know they are lying.\u201d

\nOthers reacted with concern rather than disbelief.

\nOne person said: \u201cWe\u2019re dead.\u201d

\nAnother added: \u201cThat looks scary\u201d.

\nThe account has previously shared a series of other sensational claims, including assertions that extraterrestrials built the Egyptian pyramids, that the sinking of the Titanic was intentional and that a UFO recently landed near Area 51.

\nNone of those claims has been supported by credible evidence.

\nThe latest posts come amid growing scrutiny of misleading and AI-generated content circulating on social media platforms.

\nResearchers, technology companies and governments have increasingly highlighted the challenge posed by convincing synthetic images and videos, particularly as generative AI tools become more widely available.

\nTikTok has introduced policies requiring AI-generated content that could mislead users to be labelled and has expanded its moderation efforts to tackle misinformation.

\nThe platform has also encouraged creators to disclose when realistic content has been produced using artificial intelligence.

\nThe images shared by @timevoyagin have not been independently verified, and there is no evidence that they depict future events or that the account is operated by a genuine time traveller.
