{"id":4798,"date":"2026-07-08T13:12:35","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T13:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/08\/students-break-record-for-worlds-largest-paper-plane\/"},"modified":"2026-07-08T13:12:37","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T13:12:37","slug":"students-break-record-for-worlds-largest-paper-plane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/08\/students-break-record-for-worlds-largest-paper-plane\/","title":{"rendered":"Students break record for world&#039;s largest paper plane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2026-07-08 13:12:35<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>A team of engineering students have soared into the record books after building and flying the world&#8217;s largest paper plane.<BR><br \/>\nThe group from Italy&#8217;s University of Pisa created the giant aircraft, which boasted a wingspan of 65.75 feet and stretched 23 feet from nose to tail.<BR><br \/>\nDubbed Project Icarus, the students constructed the enormous plane entirely from paper and glue with assistance from engineering education influencer Jakidale.<BR><br \/>\nAfter months of planning and testing, the team successfully launched the aircraft at the We Make Future fair at BolognaFiere in Bologna.<BR><br \/>\nThe mammoth paper plane flew 193.5 feet, securing the Guinness World Record for the world&#8217;s largest paper aircraft.<BR><br \/>\nIn doing so, the students ended a 13-year reign held by Germany&#8217;s Braunschweig Institute of Technology, which had set the previous record in 2013.<BR><br \/>\nThe team said the ambitious project began with a light-hearted classroom pastime before developing into a serious engineering challenge.<BR><br \/>\nIn a statement, the students said: \u201cIt all started with a few paper airplanes between classes, almost as a joke. We were students convinced that, with the right method, even a piece of paper could become real engineering.<BR><br \/>\n\u201cMonths of study, simulations, mistakes, and restarts followed. In the end, we managed to bring back to Italy a world record that had stood for thirteen years.\u201d<BR><br \/>\nThe members of the Unipi team involved in the record breaking attempt were: Filippo De Paoli, Lorenzo Cioli, Emanuele Campinoti, Manuel Santoro, Giovanni Chiarelli, Luca Moni, Andrea Cipriano, Martina Cacciotti, Greta Ferrante, Gianmaria Ferrante, Jacopo Sardi, Dario Nista, Daniele Rusconi Braga, Dario Del Carlo and Gabriele Frediani.<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Visit Bang Bizarre (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2026-07-08 13:12:35 A team of engineering students have soared into the record books after building and flying the world&#8217;s largest paper plane.
