A hunter in North Carolina claims to have spotted a “massive, grunting ape-like animal” which reeked of “musk” wading through a swamp.

\nRon Houston was tracking deer in Goshen Swamp, a blackwater creek swamp in Duplin County, in mid-May when he was startled by a big splash of water and the sound of tree limbs cracking before he saw a huge hairy beast around eight to 10-feet tall running away from him.

\nRon reported the sighting to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), writing: “[I] was walking in the woods in Goshen Swamp scouting for places to put a deer stand when I heard a big splash of water in the distance.

\n“I paused for one to three minutes and walked to a opening as walking I heard trees limbs on the ground snapping thought [it was] deer when I [saw] a massive, what I can only say ape-like animal running away from me.

\n“It had to be least eight or 10 foot tall and it was grunting while running and disappeared in the swamp. I left trying to figure out what I seen [sic].”

\nHe added: “Besides grunting as it ran off, [it] had a strong musk smell to it.”

\nRon went on to add he experienced a similar sighting at Angola Bay Game Land in North Carolina but did not provide any more details.

\nThe organisation has deemed his May encounter to be a “Class A” sighting.

\nAn explanation of the group’s classification system posted on the BFRO’s website describes Class A sightings, stating: ” Class A reports involve clear sightings in circumstances where misinterpretation or misidentification of other animals can be ruled out with greater confidence.

\n“For example, there are several footprint cases that are very well documented. These are considered Class A reports, because misidentification of common animals can be confidently ruled out, thus the potential for misinterpretation is very low.”

\nIt added of Class B sightings: “Incidents where a possible sasquatch was observed at a great distance or in poor lighting conditions and incidents in any other circumstance that did not afford a clear view of the subject are considered Class B reports …

\n“Class B reports are not considered less credible or less important than Class A reports – both types are deemed credible enough by the BFRO to show to the public.”
