{"id":4901,"date":"2026-07-29T14:03:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T14:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/29\/clicky-ponting-comes-under-fire-for-controversial-tactics\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T14:03:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T14:03:48","slug":"clicky-ponting-comes-under-fire-for-controversial-tactics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/29\/clicky-ponting-comes-under-fire-for-controversial-tactics\/","title":{"rendered":"&#039;Clicky Ponting&#039; comes under-fire for controversial tactics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2026-07-29 14:03:46<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>An amateur cricketer has gone viral for clicking his fingers during a game.<BR><br \/>\nBrian Devine has been nicknamed Clicky Ponting, in reference to former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, after he was seemingly caught on camera clicking his fingers, in an effort to kid the umpire into thinking that the opposition batter had edged the ball.<BR><br \/>\nIn various videos, Devine is seen snapping his fingers as the ball passes the edge of the bat, before appealing to the umpire.<BR><br \/>\nOne captain of a rival team told The Sun newspaper: &#8220;It\u2019s clear what\u2019s been happening and it\u2019s not confined to one game.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;I was at the other end when one of our players was dismissed, but our batsman was adamant he was nowhere near the ball.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;We had three given out caught behind that day, and all of them said they hadn\u2019t touched the ball.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nThe videos have caused an online controversy, with Piers Morgan, a keen cricket fan, weighing in on the debate.<BR><br \/>\nIn response to one of the videos, Morgan said on X: &#8220;Outrageous cheating, and just the tip of the iceberg from all that\u2019s come out since it was exposed. Clicky Ponting (as he is now known) and various teammates at Saltburn CC, have clearly been at this shameful scam for years. Imagine doing this in local amateur cricket? Pathetic.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nIn response to another clip, Morgan described Devine as the &#8220;biggest cheat in cricket history&#8221;.<BR><br \/>\nThe outspoken star wrote on the micro-blogging platform: &#8220;Unbelievable. Clicky Ponting must be the biggest cheat in cricket history. How long has he been doing this? How many batsmen\u2019s days has he ruined?&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nOn the other hand, some social media users have suggested that the reaction has been over the top.<BR><br \/>\nOne fan wrote: &#8220;It\u2019s an amateur cricket match. This bloke is being treated like he\u2019s Pol Pot. I fear for his mental health.
