Now I&#8217;m really torn.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nThe man&#8217;s wife &#8220;doesn&#8217;t think it is an issue&#8221; given the differences in pronunciation, but he&#8217;s worried what &#8220;people might think&#8221;.<BR><br \/>\nHe added: &#8220;I can&#8217;t shake the feeling that people might think we&#8217;ve copied them, even though we&#8217;d chosen Sophie months before their daughter was born.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nHe asked other users on the site for advice, including whether or not Sophia&#8217;s parents might think they&#8217;ve copied them.<BR><br \/>\nOne person replied: &#8220;If it were a less common name I would have hesitation but anyone naming their baby Sophie\/Sophia has to be okay with others using it.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nAnother user agreed: &#8220;Every third female child under the age of five that I know is named Sophia or Sophie, honestly nobody has a claim to that name.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;It\u2019s like saying you couldn\u2019t name your girl Mary 50 years ago just because her cousin is named Maria. It\u2019s fine, nobody will think twice about it.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nOthers added that it&#8217;s a &#8220;popular name&#8221;, and suggested the man and his wife use Sophie anyway.<BR><br \/>\nThey said: &#8220;If they have a problem with it, they can talk with you and then they will have to live with the information that you decided on the name before.&#8221;<BR><br \/>\nHowever, some people on the subreddit saw things differently.<BR><br \/>\nOne user argued: &#8220;Personally I would avoid the name just because it is so popular and having a friend name their baby that would be the nail in the coffin for me.
