Filmmaker LaRonn Katchia is convinced Bigfoot is massively misunderstood and should not be thought of as a “monster”.

\nKatchia has brought together stories about sasquatch – also known as Istiyehe and Sabe – from the cultural and community leaders of Nch’i-W\u00e1na tribes in America’s Pacific North West for his 2025 documentary Guardian of the Land and he’s adamant most people have the wrong idea about the mythical beast.

\nHe told the Unreserved podcast: “I watched a lot of Bigfoot documentaries growing up and they always want to capture Bigfoot \u2026 they see Bigfoot as this monster who pushes down trees.

\n“It was our task to create this Bigfoot that hasn\u2019t been seen on screen before, from our perspective of the Pacific Northwest.”

\nKatchia explained he grew up hearing stories about the beast, which is seen more as a “relative” than a threat.

\nHe said: “When we go out there and take our food, we don\u2019t take everything, we only take what we need and we leave the rest for animal relatives and our Bigfoot relative …

\n“I hope viewers find a new respect for Bigfoot. Creating this film, I wanted to show a different perspective, that we\u2019ve always known, but the world hasn\u2019t known.”

\nIt comes after a Bigfoot expert claimed the creatures never attack humans because they are “too intelligent” to put themselves in danger.

\nMatthew Moneymaker, who runs the the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), is convinced the creature has evaded detection for hundreds of years because it knows it needs to avoid humans in order to survive insisting many other animals who attack as a defensive mechanism have ended up extinct.

\nDuring an appearance on Fox News’ Planet Tyrus podcast, Matthew explained: “The [Bigfoot] encounters are all the same – the thing turns around and leaves … That’s a level of intelligence too because they know it’s not going to do them any good to interact with people, it puts them in danger so they just turn around and leave … ”

\nHe added: “[So many species like the California grizzly bear] are all excextinct because as soon as they would see any kind of intruder, a human or a human on horseback, they would just make a beeline and attack. Small brained animal … So not attacking has a survival advantage.”

\nMatthew also insisted a Bigfoot might try to scare humans into leaving its territory but they would do so without “physically attacking”.

\nHe said: “They might try to intimidate and scare but they don’t need to do more than that because that always works … If they don’t want to just immediately leave, if it’s dark and they really want you to leave the area, they’ll do things in a way that doesn’t put them in danger …

\n“If you turn on a spotlight, they’re going to be just far enough behind trees so you can’t shoot ’em. But they’ll still make you uncomfortable all night long so you don’t want to stay there. “So they know how to get you out of the area without physically attacking you.”
