This is a very exciting new frontier in brain research.”

The researchers also looked back more than 550 million years into evolutionary history, finding the same two-origin pattern in chickens, zebrafish and acorn worms.

Dr Loh said: “Our research suggests that evolution took two existing neural systems and pushed them together spatially.

“Having the brain as one organ would probably be more efficient, but we rely on this primordial way to make the brain as two separate pieces.”

Visit Bang Bizarre (main website)

2026-09-22 11:01:40 The human brain may look like one highly complex organ, but scientists say it is actually made from two ancient nervous systems that evolved separately.
