A sailor claims to have spotted an “oversized crocodile head” emerging from Loch Ness.

\nThe witness – who has not been named – was taking his yacht out at the fabled Scottish tourist destination on July 25 when he saw something unusual in the water around 100 metres away from his vessel but he didn’t manage to catch the creature on camera because it disappeared back into the depths so quickly.

\nThe incident was reported to the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, which described the witness as a “a local sailor”. He told the register: “[I] spotted what I can only explain as a large oversized crocodile head above the water off the starboard quarter at at distance of around 100 metres.

\n“At the time we were about two miles west of Glenmoriston, sea state was slight and visibility good.

\n“Our position was in the middle of the loch with the head sighting between us and the North shore. The head quickly disappeared before I could get a photo as it took me a few minutes to process what I was seeing. We made it into Fort Augustus safely with no further sightings.”

\nIt comes after a woman claimed to have spotted the Loch Ness Monster from space after making a shocking discovery while using Google Earth.

\nJulie Fraser, from the north east of England, was looking at the area using the online platform while doing research for an upcoming holiday to Loch Ness and she was stunned to see three objects in the water which looked like a “pod of whales” and became convinced she may have stumbled across “a little family of Nessies”.

\nShe told the Inverness Courier: “Last weekend I opened Google Earth to look around the Clan Fraser cemetery on the east shore of the loch – I’m planning a visit to Inverness later in the year and was just playing when I spotted the three objects.

\n“Taking a closer look and enlarging the images they really do look like a pod of whales.”

\nJulie explained there is no way to date the image using Goggle Earth but it looks like it is from 2026 and must be recent because the trees are full and green.

\nShe went on to insist the objects she spotted look strange because they don’t appear to be leaving a wake.

\nShe added: “There’s an image of a pleasure boat with a wake but no wake from the three things. They don’t like like boats and look like whales or something similar with an arc to their back.

\n“I’m not a crank. I’m not as familiar as probably local people but it definitely looks like something significant to me … I had a look yesterday and they’re still there. The thought of a little family of Nessies is so exciting.”

\nJulie has submitted her sighting to the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register and is waiting to hear whether her discovery will be accepted and recorded by the organisation.
