A supercomputer has predicted the world will end in 1,000,002,021.

\nScientists from NASA and The University of Tokyo in Japan joined forces with the machine to use \u201ca combined biogeochemistry and climate model to examine the likely timescale of oxygen-rich atmospheric conditions on Earth\u201d.

\nThe results showed that the date is directly dependent on the lifespan of the Sun, which is constantly expanding.

\nDue to this, the Sun will eventually meet a point when the heat of the solar system\u2019s central star will reach a level that makes it impossible for anyone, or anything, to live on Earth – with the decreased levels of oxygen also making the planet uninhabitable.

\nAnd now we have a rough estimate for exactly when the apocalypse will happen, but it\u2019s not for a billion years.

\nHowever, worryingly the process has already started, with the researchers saying that the increased activity from the Sun – with increased solar flares and sunspots – in recent months is pointing to the transformation having already begun.

\nThe study was published by Kazumi Ozaki and Christopher T. Reinhard in the Nature Geoscience Research journal, as they explained: \u201cEarth’s modern atmosphere is highly oxygenated and is a remotely detectable signal of its surface biosphere.

\n“However, the lifespan of oxygen-based biosignatures in Earth’s atmosphere remains uncertain, particularly for the distant future.

\n\u201cHere we use a combined biogeochemistry and climate model to examine the likely timescale of oxygen-rich atmospheric conditions on Earth.”

\nThe publication comes after scientists at the University of Bristol also used computer modelling in a bid to predict Earth\u2019s future.

\nDr Alexander Farnsworth, the study’s lead author and senior research associate at the university, explained that the combined factors – such as the increased temperatures and reduced oxygen – would lead to the creation of a \u201csupercontinent\u201d called Pangea Ultima.

\nHe said: \u201cThe result is a mostly hostile environment devoid of food and water sources for mammals.

\n“Widespread temperatures of between 40 to 50 degrees celsius (104 to 122 degrees fahrenheit), and even greater daily extremes, compounded by high humidity levels, would ultimately seal our fate.

\n\u201cHumans and many other species would expire due to their inability to shed this heat through sweat, cooling their bodies.”
