{"id":668,"date":"2025-02-04T16:42:55","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T16:42:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/09\/scientists-discover-that-exoplanet-smells-of-rotten-eggs\/"},"modified":"2025-02-04T16:42:55","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T16:42:55","slug":"scientists-discover-that-exoplanet-smells-of-rotten-eggs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bangbizarre.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/04\/scientists-discover-that-exoplanet-smells-of-rotten-eggs\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientists discover that exoplanet smells of rotten eggs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>2024-07-09 15:11:24<\/b><br \/>\n<BR>A distant planet stinks of rotten eggs.<BR><br \/>\nScientists have been studying the atmosphere of the exoplanet HD 189733 b, a gas giant that is a similar size to Jupiter, using data from NASA&#8217;s James Webb Space Telescope and have found that it has trace amounts of hydrogen sulphide &#8211; a gas that is emitted in farts.<BR><br \/>\nDespite the foul smell, the discovery could aid humanity&#8217;s understanding of alien life as it offers scientists information about how sulphur influences planets outside of our solar system.<BR><br \/>\nThe exoplanet in question has extremely hot temperatures of 927C and is known for vicious weather including raining glass and 5,000mph winds.<BR><br \/>\nGuangwei Fu, an astrophysicist at Johns Hopkins University in the US, said: &#8220;Hydrogen sulphide is a major molecule that we didn&#8217;t know was there.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;We predicted it would be, and we know it&#8217;s in Jupiter, but we hadn&#8217;t really detected it outside the solar system.<BR><br \/>\n&#8220;We&#8217;re not looking for life on this planet because it&#8217;s way too hot, but finding hydrogen sulphide is a stepping stone for finding this molecule on other planets and gaining more understanding of how different types of planets form.&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/bangpremier.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Visit Bang Premier (main website) <\/a><br \/>\n<br \/><script src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player\/xtbac.js\" data-video=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2024-07-09 15:11:24 A distant planet stinks of rotten eggs.
