A woman is in “utter shock” after being invited to her friend’s wedding as a babysitter in a separate room.

\nThe woman and her husband received an invite with a “little note” inside, which revealed her husband would be at the wedding and reception, but she wouldn’t be involved.

\nPosting on Reddit, user EdenCapwell wrote: “I’d be in another room helping to babysit all the children there with several other female invitees.”

\nShe added: “There’s a special room for children at the church and that’s where I’d be. For everything.

\n“I’d still need to dress for a wedding in case I wind up in any photos, but I’d be taking my reception meal with the children and I’d be with all the kids for the ceremony.

\n“Then there was a link for their gift registry.”

\nTHe couple were also told that their meals would each cost $100, with a link to pay for their food when they RSVP.

\nThe woman explained: “The first problem here is that I am disabled at 50 years old”.

\nAs noted she is on oxygen and requires mobility aids at times, and so she’d be “pretty useless to prevent a fall or stop a child from choking or anything else that would require me to move quickly”.

\nMeanwhile, it’s her rather than her husband who has been friends with the couple getting married ever since childhood.

\nShe questioned: “Why would he be invited to watch the ceremony and be part of the reception but not me?

\n“My husband said he’d happily watch the kids and let me attend the wedding and reception, but the invitation specified that only other female invitees would be watching the kids, so I doubt they’d let him.

\n“I grew up with the bride’s mom as an almost-sister to me. We went to school together, graduated together, worked at the same place twice, and have been super close since.”

\nReddit users agreed taht it was a baffling situation, with one person describing the invite as the “tackiest thing”.

\nThey wrote: “That is the tackiest thing I’ve ever heard of. Asking guests to provide free child care, pay for their meal, and give them a gift? Hell no.”

\nAnother person quipped: “I’ve thought about this, and I think I’d show up to babysit, and then lead the other [babysitters] and kids in some sort of epic wedding crashing disruption.”
