Lie-ins could stop people from going deaf.
Scientists at Chungnam National University in South Korea studied 6,797 people, and those who were in their 40s and 50s and stayed in bed were 42 per cent less likely to suffer mild hearing loss.
In addition, 21 per cent were less likely to have moderate hearing loss.
The team of experts think that getting some extra hours of kip can preserve nerve connections in the brain that allow people to hear clearly.
However, not getting enough sleep can lead to inflammation that can cause damage to the inner part of the ear.
The researchers said: “Our study suggests the association between weekend catch-up sleep and hearing loss may be more pronounced among middle-aged adults – those who are 40 to 64 – compared to adults aged 65 or older.”
