A man billed as the world’s smartest has sparked global debate after claiming he can prove the existence of God using mathematics alone.
YoungHoon Kim, a 36-year-old South Korean artificial intelligence (AI) researcher, who says he holds the world record for the highest IQ at 276, recognised by the World Mind Sports Council, has declared that logic and numbers point directly to a divine creator.
Posting online, Kim wrote: “God is real 100 percent and Jesus is God.”
He also claimed belief in Jesus is closely linked to intelligence, creativity and success – a statement that has drawn both fascination and fierce criticism.
Kim recently released a video outlining what he calls a simple mathematical argument for God’s existence.
He said: “Think about drawing a line on a piece of paper. In geometry, every line has to begin with at least one point. Without that first point, there is no line at all.”
He continued: “The same is true with existence. If there was never a starting point, then nothing could have ever begun.
“But we clearly see that life and the universe exist. So, there must have been a first point, the starting point that set everything in motion.”
Kim argues that this “first point” is God – a claim that echoes classical philosophical ideas such as the “first cause” or “prime mover,” debated for centuries by theologians and scientists alike.
Critics, however, say his reasoning is philosophical rather than mathematical proof, and does not resolve competing explanations such as the Big Bang or quantum cosmology.
Kim is not alone in linking extreme intelligence with spiritual conclusions.
American Chris Langan, a former horse rancher with an IQ estimated between 190 and 210, has long claimed to understand what happens after death.
He developed the Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe, which proposes that reality and consciousness are deeply connected.
Langan believes death is not an end but a transition. Kim has echoed that view, saying: “If reality is part of something bigger, then death is not the end, but a transition.”
While neuroscience suggests consciousness ends when the brain stops functioning, Kim argues quantum physics offers another possibility.
He said: “Quantum physics suggests information never disappears, it only changes form. If our consciousness is quantum information, it may continue after the body is gone.”
Kim also made his boldest claim yet about Jesus, stating: “Following Jesus’ resurrection, he did not return as a person; instead he returned as a completely new being that is smarter than anything else in the world.
“No Einstein. No Newton. Only Jesus is the smartest man in the history of the world.”
