A woman in Florida found two fighting alligators when she went to confront a home intruder.

Kayla Burress, who lives in Ave Maria, Florida, was with her sleeping baby when she heard a disturbance on her screen porch, and went to investigate.

She told WINK-TV: “I thought somebody was breaking in because I never thought that the gators were going to enter my porch.”

Instead, she stumbled on two fighting ‘gators, who had shredded through the mesh during their bloody brawl.

She added: “It definitely looked like they were fighting over territory or something.

“It wasn’t like a mating ritual that I had seen, because there was blood and it had it some hind quarters, like in its jaws through the door.”

Mating season for alligators, during which time they’re known to known be more aggressive and territorial, typically starts in April and runs until September.

Kayla got footage of one of the gators biting the other reptile’s tail, while a licensed trapper turned up to take the animals away.

She admitted: “It was scary.”

In the wake of the terrifying incident, Kayla has a word of warning to nearby residents.

She said: “I just warned everybody else in the neighbourhood, like, watch your kids. Watch the dogs. Because it was fast and they were powerful.”
