Officials in the US have a “preparedness plan” in place to make sure they are ready to deal with extraterrestrials.

US President Donald Trump has spearheaded the release of government files relating to UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) in recent months and supported the creation of the UAP Science Advisory Council which can review the archives, investigate reports and advise the White House – and now one of the members on the board has confirmed there is a plan ready to deal with the fall out if the existence of extraterrestrial life is ever confirmed.

In a post on Substack , psychologist Jennice Vilhauer wrote: “At a meeting held on August 31, 2026, at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the UAP Science Advisory Council, of which I am a member, was informed that the United States government has a preparedness plan in place should the existence of nonhuman intelligence (NHI) be confirmed.

“We were also told that the United States is prepared to take an international leadership role if necessary.”

Vilhauer went on to explain the existence of the plan should not be taken as confirmed the US government has already confirmed the existence of aliens but the potential threat is being taken seriously.

She added: “The existence of a preparedness plan … does mean that the possibility of confirming NHI [non-human intelligence] has been taken seriously enough to warrant advance planning.

“That alone is significant because it means that the United States government has considered the possibility that such a confirmation could occur and it has determined that the consequences would be substantial enough to require a coordinated response.”

Vilhauer added members of the council were not given any further details about the plan and they were not told how a response would play out.

She wrote: “We were not given any details about the plan. We do not know which agencies would lead the response, what circumstances would activate it, or whether it addresses the psychological and societal impact of such information.

“Those questions matter because preparing to release information is not the same as preparing people to understand and adapt to it.”
