Work benches are helping isolated men to make friends.
The Men’s Sheds Association – community workshops where men can create converse and connect – has begun its task, called Mission: Shoulder to Shoulder, to create friendships in its workshops.
TV presenter Timmy Mallett, 69, is helping the movement to make a friendship bench at Black Park Shed in Buckinghamshire.
He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “If you put two men in a room and ask them to have a deep and meaningful conversation, they might scarper.
“But if you put them at a work bench, shoulder to shoulder, you often get work-bench buddies.
“They might not fix much, but those conversations can change a life.”
