Clever hound escapes shelter by unlocking front door

A dog fled from his animal shelter after unlocking the front door.

CCTV footage from inside The Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter showed the moment Dawson escaped his locked kennel, walked to the facility’s front door before the canine stood up on his legs and used his mouth to unlock the door.

Dawson then pushed the door open, exited the shelter, and went missing on Monday (05.01.26).

Management shared the video on Facebook in the hope someone would find the hound.

A spokesperson captioned the video with: “This is NOT AI, though we wish it was.

This guy is much smarter than he looks. Not only did he get out of his locked kennel, he managed to UNLOCK THE FRONT DOOR and leave! (sic)”

On Wednesday (07.01.26), The Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter posted an update on the social media platform to say that Dawson had been found safe.
