Youngsters are giving a traditional fry-up. the ultimate makeover.

According to a survey by EDF Energy, 49 per cent of Brits enjoy waking up feasting on a plate of smoked bacon, juicy sausages, soft fried eggs, crispy hash browns, and sweet baked beans.

Despite that, 19 per cent of those Gen Z individuals – people born between 1997 and 2012 – surveyed need to add extras, such as chips (27 per cent), avocado (17 per cent), cheddar cheese (15 per cent), smoked salmon (13 per cent), and kimchi (5 per cent).

But some individuals go further by chucking haggis (8 per cent) and Yorkshire puddings (7 per cent) on the plate.

When it comes to condiments, the young folk love to squirt chilli sauce (11 per cent), salad cream (9 per cent), garlic mayo (7 per cent) and hot honey (5 per cent) all over their fry-up.

However, traditional condiments ketchup (42 per cent) and brown sauce (30 per cent) remain the most popular.

TV presenter-and-farmer Jimmy Doherty, 50, loves how youngsters are shaking up the British breakfast staple.

He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I’ve been making fry-ups for as long as I can remember.

“I love seeing how creative people are getting with them. For me, a proper fry-up is the perfect fuel before a full-on day at the farm.”
