A teacher has been placed on leave after being filmed urinating into a canister.
Educator Dan Champ, who worked in the Rocklin area of California, has been identified by students in phone footage unbuttoning his trousers and peeing into a container just off camera, before buttoning his pants and tucking in his shirt.
In the video, which was published by The Sacramento Bee newspaper, Champ could be heard saying “Gosh that’s good”, and then “love it, love it” as he walked across the room with the container and appeared to pour out the liquid.
Around a minute later, the school bell rang and students can be heard entering the classroom, while it doesn’t appear there were any pupils in the room at the time he was urinating.
The eight grade history teacher at Granite Oaks Middle School, who also served as Associated Study Body advisor, has been teaching for over 25 years.
The video was taken by a student, and shared with school officials on February 25.
That day, an email sent to families read: “This afternoon, after school dismissal, a parent and a staff member informed the School Administration of a video showing an employee engaging in conduct inconsistent with our professional standards.
“While the unverified video does not involve any students or other staff, the employee has been placed on leave while Granite Oaks Middle School and the Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) investigate the incident.
“Although we are unable to share specific details, this matter is being taken seriously and will be addressed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.”
It’s not clear why the student had secretly recorded Champ, but the video was shared between students on Snapchat.
One student, speaking anonymously, recalled hearing rumours about Champ urinating into a container between his classes.
She said: “It personally makes me feel disgusted knowing that I was in the room prior to him doing that near the spot that I used to sit.”
