Neil deGrasse Tyson has declared aliens are real.
The astrophysicist has insisted we are not alone because the existence of life elsewhere in the universe is a highly likely”.
During an interview with Brian Tyler Cohen, Tyson explained: “To suggest that we are alone in the universe, you’d only be thinking that for some philosophical or religious reason, not for any reason based in science. So my answer is yes. There’s life.
“It’s highly likely there’s life out there in the universe.”
It comes after former US President Barack Obama appeared on the No Lie With Brian Tyler Cohen podcast and confirmed his own belief in the existence of extraterrestrial life.
Tyson was asked about Obama’s comments and he threw his support behind the former politician, saying: “He’s scientifically literate, and he gave the scientifically literate reply. He’s citing what any scientist would tell you about the likelihood of life in the universe …
“Because he was president, people wanted to read into it on levels that were just off the scale and out of control. And so I was intrigued by that reaction. Because as an educator, I like knowing that I can anticipate how people will respond to certain information, and if I ever get it wrong, it’s like, how did I misthink their motives or their brain wiring in this?”
During Obama’s appearance on the podcast, the former president revealed the first question he asked following his first election to the White House was related to beings from outer space.
Obama said: “They’re real. But I haven’t seen them. They’re not being kept at … Area 51. There’s no underground facility – unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the President of the United States.”
Cohen then asked the former politician: “What was the first question you wanted answered when you became president?” and Obama replied: “Where are the aliens?”
After the interview was published, Obama shared a clip showing him talking about aliens on his Instagram page and made an attempt to clarify his answers.
Obama wrote: “I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention let me clarify. “Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”
Obama was touching on long-running conspiracy theories which suggest the US government has been aware of alien life for decades and evidence has been stored at the Area 51 military base in Nevada.
