A Mexican vigilante known as ‘Batman’ is wanted by police after allegedly taping suspected thieves to lampposts.
Over 10 days, it’s said at least five men were found taped up and unable to move in Lagos de Moreno in Jalisco, western Mexico since June 13.
According to reports, many of the men had moustaches, cat whiskers and the Spanish word for thief (ratero) drawn on their races.
Some had also suffered injuries like cuts and bloody faces, allegedly at the hands of the anonymous vigilante.
Meanwhile, some of the alleged criminals had pink warning signs above their heads detailing the crimes they have been accused of, with bikes they allegedly stole left nearby.
Mexican journalist Luis Cardenas described them as the “Batman of Lagos de Moreno”, after reports the mysterious individual took matters into their own hands after growing tired of law enforcement’s apparently slow pace.
Emergency services released the men, and local police are hunting the vigilante.
No arrests have been made.
According to The Telegraph, Salvador González de los Santos, a Jalisco prosecutor noted that he remains their priority.
They will be investigating the alleged thefts, but the five men in question at being treated as victims “at this moment”, because of the nature of the vigilante’s actions.
