An astrologer has predicted England’s soccer World Cup semi-final against Argentina will end with a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
The side from the UK will take on the reigning champions in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday (15.07.26) as the FIFA 2026 World Cup races to its conclusion with both teams vying for a place in the final in New Jersey on Sunday (19.07.26) – now astrologer Giorgio Armas, who specialises in predictions relating to South American soccer matches, has given his verdict and predicted the game will be incredibly tight.
After Argentina defeated Switzerland to win a place in the semi-final against England, Armas warned the team’s goalkeeper Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez to prepare for penalties.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Prediction fulfilled! How long ago did I say that? Dibu better get ready – we’re going to a penalty shootout.”
Armas did not say which side will emerge victorious, but he warned England to expect a massive performance from Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi.
In an interview with Tn.com.ar, he said: “We have to prepare for Leo’s best game yet.”
Other predictions for the game have come in from The Athletic – which uses a whippet named Stanley to guess the results – and the pooch has called it in favour of Argentina while the Mystic Meerkats, a group of creatures housed at the Drusillas Park Zoo in England have predicted a win for their home side.
The meerkats correctly predicted the outcome of England’s previous games in the soccer tournament and now they have guessed the team will make it to their first World Cup final since 1966.
Zookeepers set up two buckets of treats – each baring the team’s flags – and they let the meerkats choose which one they want to eat from.
When faced with buckets emblazoned with the flags of England and Argentina, the hairy creatures opted for the red and white George Cross – predicting an England victory.
Jacinta Dawe, Zoo Section Leader at Drusillas Park, said: “The Mystic Meerkats prediction record this World Cup has been second to none. They’ve called every England result correctly so far, and they even seemed to predict that the Norway match would be tense, dramatic and hard work before England finally came through.
“Today’s forecast was actually one of our most convincing predictions. Apart from a few early peeks, the Argentina bucket was almost completely ignored while the England bucket attracted nearly all of the mob. It couldn’t have been much clearer.
“The funniest part was seeing them discover the football. A few of them climbed all over it, before one kicked it away from the buckets. They’ve definitely caught football fever, just like everyone here at Drusillas! Hopefully that’s another good omen for Wednesday night.”
