A Disney fan has left the internet stunned after revealing the eye-watering difference between the price of entering Walt Disney World when it opened and the cost of a ticket today.
Social media user Javi Oliveira shared a photo of an original admission ticket dated October 1, 1971, the day the Orlando theme park welcomed its first visitors, alongside a modern ticket from 2026.
The vintage pass cost just $3.50 (£2.60), while the newer ticket was priced at $180 (£133), representing an increase of more than 5,000 per cent.
The discovery has highlighted how a dream trip to the Florida resort has transformed from an affordable day out into a major holiday expense for many families.
Today, a standard Walt Disney World ticket can cost between $127 (£94) and $223 (£165) per day for adults and children over 10, depending on the park and date.
For the millions of visitors who travel from the UK each year, the cost does not stop at admission, with flights, accommodation, food, merchandise and extras adding thousands to the final bill.
Sharing the comparison online, Javi wrote: “This is the price difference of a Disney World ticket from 1971 to 2026.”
Some social media users were shocked by the rise.
One commenter said: “That’s why they say it’s a dream to travel there, because of the prices.”
Another added: “Way too expensive! I’d rather go to Disney Paris.”
However, others pointed out that the resort has changed dramatically since it first opened.
Walt Disney World began as a single theme park but has expanded into a huge resort featuring four theme parks, two water parks and more than 170 attractions.
The experiences have also become more advanced, with expensive rides, technology-driven attractions and larger entertainment offerings contributing to rising costs.
Inflation also plays a role in the comparison.
The $3.50 ticket from 1971 would be worth around $28.86 (£21.40) today, while a $180 ticket today would have been roughly $21.83 (£16.19) in 1971 terms.
Despite the soaring prices, Walt Disney World remains one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, continuing to attract families hoping to experience its famous castle, characters and attractions.
