Nebraska football fans looking for a truly unforgettable piece of stadium memorabilia can now take home something rather less glamorous than a seat or sign.

Used urinal troughs from Memorial Stadium are being sold for $3,000 apiece as part of the ongoing renovation of the 103-year-old venue.

According to Larry Holder of The Athletic, seven of the 30 available troughs had already been purchased by Monday afternoon, citing Rare Goods co-founder Joe DiPietro, whose company is helping Nebraska sell items removed during the Big Red Rebuild.

The unusual collectibles are being marketed as a piece of the stadium’s history, having served thousands of Husker fans on football Saturdays over the years.

The official sale description says: “For the Husker fan, this creates a unique, certainly unforgettable opportunity in the entire Memorial Stadium Collection.”

And buyers are not necessarily expected to keep the trough looking exactly as it did in the stadium.

The sales pitch suggests fans could transform the fixtures into oversized planters, garden features, game-room displays, workshop fixtures or outdoor decorations.

It adds: “Fill it with flowers and build the most Nebraska planter on the block.”

For those who prefer to preserve their purchase, there is always the option of simply displaying it as a conversation piece.

The sales page jokes: “Nobody is going to walk into your garage, basement, shop, backyard, or Husker room and ask, ‘Where did you find a stadium urinal trough?’

“They are going to ask: ‘Wait. Is that actually from Memorial Stadium?’ Yes. Yes, it is.”

The troughs are among numerous pieces being removed as Memorial Stadium undergoes its latest transformation.

The stadium opened in 1923 and is home to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, with the renovation giving fans an opportunity to own unusual artefacts from its past.

The official listing concludes with a memorable comparison: “A pair of Memorial Stadium seats tells people you love Nebraska football.

“A Memorial Stadium urinal trough tells them you have fully committed.”
