An ice cream shop has become an unlikely internet sensation after its owners unleashed a sweary Facebook rant defending their young staff from rude customers.
Coldstuff Ice Cream in Blackstone, Massachusetts, was opened by brothers Dave and Kevin Miller in August, but they had enough after a customer allegedly became angry with a 16-year-old employee over a 25-cent price discrepancy.
The brothers responded with a blunt message aimed at customers who take their frustrations out on teenage workers.
“STOP YELLING AT MY F****** employees,” the post read. “They are children. This job, for most of them is their first. They are going to make mistakes. They aren’t in charge of anything.”
The post quickly spread online, attracting hundreds of thousands of likes and thousands of shares, while supporters flooded the comments with praise for the brothers’ decision to stand up for their employees.
The shop added: “This can all be fixed with a smile and a positive attitude. It’s ice cream for crying out loud. Grow up and act your age.”
And the owners were not finished.
In the comments, they wrote: “And NOBODY gives a s*** if you don’t come back. We’d prefer it that way.”
The brothers admitted they initially worried the post could trigger a backlash, but said the response had instead been overwhelmingly positive and even brought more customers through the door.
One supporter wrote: “I wish I had a boss that had my back when I was a screw up of a teenager at my first job.”
Another added: “Looks like a trip to Massachusetts for some ice cream is in order.”
The owners stressed that their message was not intended as an attack on older customers, but rather a plea for people to show patience towards young workers who are still learning.
Kevin Miller told WBZ-TV that seeing the 16-year-old’s reaction had particularly affected him.
“When a 16-year-old looks at you with like puppy dog eyes and is like, ‘did I really screw up that bad for someone to treat me like that?’” he said. “It’s like, ‘no, this is ice cream.’”
