A goldfish’s “driving” has earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Computer engineer Thomas de Wolf created a custom-built vehicle which detected his pet Blub’s movement inside a water tank to direct the wheels, and the creature travelled 40ft and 3.46 inches in 60 seconds, securing it the record for homas de Wolf and Blub, using a car that detected the fish’s movement inside a water tank to direct the wheels, earned the record for the greatest distance covered in a motion-sensing vehicle by a goldfish in one minute.

Thomas – who brought Blub and his invention to Italian TV show Lo Show dei Record to secure the record in front of host Gerry Scotti and a GWR adjudicator – said in a statement: “Normally, my job is quite monotonous, so I wanted to create something that would entertain people, turning my ‘serious’ job into something fun.

“The objective is to show people what is possible to achieve with this kind of technology.”

Thomas hopes his invention can make a difference to the world.

He said: “I would love to maybe one day be able to help people with mobility issues.”
