UFO whistleblower David Grusch claims former US Vice President Dick Cheney oversaw a “detainment situation” involving live aliens.

Former United States Air Force (USAF) and military intelligence officer Grusch – who previously testified before Congress about alleged UFO experiences – made the sensational new claims during an appearance on The Dr. Phil Podcast suggesting Cheney – who served as VP under President George W. Bush between 2001 and 2009 – was involved in recovering live creatures from crashed spaceships.

He said: “I know people who had direct interactions in a detainment situation, which sounds very Star Trek and sounds very crazy, but it is true. I spoke to a former cabinet member who directly worked the issue for a particular former vice president. You can guess which one. Darth Vader.”

Grusch was referring to Cheney’s Star Wars-inspired nickname which was used throughout his time in office. Cheney died in November 2025 at the age of 84.

Grusch also claimed between 25 and 100 alien spacecraft remain in government custody and the captured creatures were able to communicate using “telepathy”.

He said: “It is true that it is some sort of consciousness communication. Of course, people call it telepathy. I cannot begin to tell you how it works.

“But there is some sort of communication like that.”

Host Phil McGraw said of the claims: “David’s story is absolutely a reminder that asking hard questions and getting to the truth is every citizen’s right. You may believe there’s something there.

“You may believe we’re alone. You may believe we’re not. But you have a right to have information and think critically about it.”

Current US President Donald Trump has been busy overseeing the release of official files relating to UFO sightings, while former US President Barack Obama previously insisted he believed in alien life but he didn’t see any proof during his two terms in the White House.

During appearance on the No Lie With Brian Tyler Cohen podcast, Obama said: “They’re real. But I haven’t seen them. They’re not being kept at … Area 51. “There’s no underground facility – unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the President of the United States.”

Cohen then asked the former politician: “What was the first question you wanted answered when you became president?” and Obama replied: “Where are the aliens?”

After the interview was published, Obama shared a clip showing him talking about aliens on his Instagram page and made an attempt to clarify his answers.

Obama wrote: “I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention let me clarify. “Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”
