Pet owners are taking time off work to bond with their cats or dogs when they first bring them home.
In total, 2,000 owners were surveyed by Wisdom Panel, a pet DNA testing service, and 76 per cent of respondents said it was important to spend time with their new addition for a good relationship to be built.
The poll also showed that some owners spent the day(s) playing with their animals (50 per cent), cuddling them (42 per cent) and giving them treats (36 per cent).
Caroline Wilkinson, an animal behaviourist, said: “Giving your pet time, patience and positive experiences helps build the trust that every healthy human animal bond relies on.”
