A zebra escaped and got on the loose in a city near Sacramento.

The animal, whose name is Zeus, is legally owned and had escaped from its home and started roaming around Lincoln in Northern California before being taken in by the Placer County Animal Services.

The organisation wrote on Facebook: “Well… this is a first for us!

“Our Animal Control Officers had a wildly exciting morning in Lincoln yesterday —responding to a call that was anything but ordinary… a zebra on the loose! Yes, you read that right. A zebra. In Lincoln.

“Meet Zeus. A stunning, stripe-covered escape artist who likely took advantage of the stormy weather to go on a little adventure of his own.

“Thankfully, our team was able to safely (and skillfully!) bring this exotic gentleman into our care.”

The zebra “spent the night” with the team and put on a real charm offensive, before being reunited with his owner.

They continued: “He spent the night with us, charming staff left and right with his calm, cooperative nature — and giving everyone a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see such a beautiful animal up close. Not your average shelter guest!

“Good news: Zeus is safe, healthy, and heading back home today with his owner (who is legally allowed to have him, in case you were wondering!).

“Zeus, you definitely made our week a little more stripe-tacular. We won’t forget you anytime soon!”
