Men who do more household chores have increased libido.
Research has found that males who take on more domestic tasks such as meal planning and cleaning can boost their sexual desire as a result.
The study, which investigated sexual desire based on the balance of chores completed by couples in the home, made several findings that will not come as a shock.
Women typically took on most daily tasks – from cleaning to childcare – resulting in a low libido.
Men often took on home and car maintenance tasks, such as mowing the lawn, with their sexual desire falling if they performed more parenting and childcare duties.
However, their libido increased when they did more household tasks.
The research did not analyse whether this increase was connected to the fact that, in helping out their female partner, they reduced the burden on their companion and made intimacy a stronger possibility.
The authors of the study believes that the findings could be useful for couples who are going through relationship therapy.
The experts from the US and Canada wrote in The Journal of Sex Research: “This pattern may reflect gendered expectations around cleaning as a taken-for-granted or invisible task for women, but a more discretionary or appreciated contribution for men.
“Our findings have important clinical and practical implications.
“Clinicians working with couples in which a woman reports low sexual desire may benefit from exploring couples’ expectations about gender roles and division of labour.”
